On a sunny Sunday afternoon, I met veterans Roger and Gabe at Gabe's Friedberg apartment for a little interview over carrot cake and coffee. Roger, after retiring from the military, lives with his wife and children in Ockstadt, his wife's hometown. Gabe has also stayed here for his family. As long as his children need him, Gabe says, he will stay in Germany. The two talk about their path to the military and their experiences as American soldiers in Germany, and why they want their children to grow up in Germany.
